History/Background: Wikia Page
Personality:
I am Juzumaru Tsunetsugu. Through the long years, as people's values have changed again and again, I have fixed my gaze on the true meaning of Buddhism.
Juzumaru at his core is a sword suffused with the ways of Buddhism and its teachings. This is natural considering that his master was the founder of Nichiren Buddhism. Despite this Juzumaru, unlike Kousetsu Samonji another sword whose master was a Buddhist monk, has no qualms about fighting for the sake of his faith.
This world is full of sorrows. ...What brings relief is religious faith, which is the duty of a monk.
Much like the sword, Kousetsu, Juzumaru sees the world as a place filled with sorrow and defaults to his faith in order to light the way for others and to keep the peace. With this quote and various others it’s easy to see how much of his previous master’s personality and beliefs comes through. A few of his quotes are Buddhist mantras chanted and said to ward off evil such as: Haja Kensho and Namu-myoho-renge-kyo. The Namu-myoho-renge-kyo is a principle or law that Nichiren Buddhist follow. It is basically an expression of determination, and to never yield to one’s difficulties. It is also a vow to help others reveal this law in their own lives to achieve happiness. Juzumaru in this way is a determined individual at heart, and often helps others when he can. Juzumaru, like all Buddhists also believes in the core values of impermanence.
All earthly things pass away. All existing things are without self.
This quote is a good example of the idea of impermanence (one of the three marks of existence the other two are dukkha and anatta), which basically states that all things, without fail, are in a constant state of flux. Buddha taught that because of this impermanent existence phenomena that occur are as well, and becoming attached to them is a cause for suffering or another value called dukkha. Anatta is something which states that things have no fixed nature, essence, or self. What this means in terms of Juzumaru is that like his fellow sword, Kousetsu who also follows these principles, they are both very open-minded individuals. Anatta also states that in order to become a higher being a person must exhibit self-control and be self-contained. This just means that one should practice metta or mindfulness.
I will gladly assist you. / To complete your daily work diligently and without fail, is the path of righteousness. / Let's aim to improve ourselves and work hard at training.
These two quotes for example show that Juzumarua is very hardworking and diligent in doing hard labor.
Let us study the enemy's situation and match their every move. / It would not do to get angry.
Juzumaru is also very calculating as seen by this quote. He rather study the enemy’s move beforehand, instead of just jumping into a fight. Showing that he is competent on the battlefield, but also most importantly he is calm and collected as well.
Despite his roots in Nichiren Buddhism Juzumaru does not hesitate to fight. In fact he sees fighting as a way to purify the world around him and does so with vigor.
This is your punishment. / Haja Kensho!
Both of these show Juzumaru’s actions and thoughts on fighting quite well. He sees those who are against him, the saniwa, and his fellow swords as an enemy. He will do everything in his power to stop them because they are evil and are not keeping the peace. Haja kensho is just a doctrine that refutes evil and reveals the truth.
In terms of his fellow sword given the fact that Juzumaru is one of the Tenka Goten he more revered by the others than he would like to be. His state of mindfulness would probably make address others as he would like to be. It’s shown in their interaction together that he and Mikazuki (another sword of the Tenka Goten) speak on very friendly terms, albeit properly with the use of –dono, with each other. So it’s safe to say that Juzumaru would be open towards the others swords and not use his status as one Japan’s national treasures as a means to look down on others. Juzumaru’s interaction with Yamabushi Kunihiro for example, even shows Juzumaru thanking the other for aiding in teaching him more about Buddhism. So it’s safe to say that Juzumaru is a very kind, peaceful, and devout spirit but he’s also open-minded and willing to learn from others.
Magic Weapon:
Go Chanting 108
A necklace of 108 prayer beads said to be sacred to several countries in Shatranj; the beads are made from the lightest bones of birds and other flight animals, so the necklace is strangely easy to maneuver with. When paired with an incantation, it allows the wielder to temporarily charm a wide variety of living things and abominations with its soothing effects. If the wielder keeps chanting, the effects will increase slightly in strength and duration. It can even abate twisted mana energies such as those emanating from "ghosts" for a time. However, the extent of its effects depends on the wielder's sense of compassion for their targets, and the amount of mana required increases greatly with the duration of the effect and the number of targets. It can charm 1 target at first; the effects increase with practice.
Carrier: Crystalline Peacock
Kouki is a peacock with crystalline feathers of varying colors. It’s a peaceful bird that is rather calm and isolated at times, but also harbors a degree of inquisitiveness about it. It’s very protective of those its handler considers friends/family and can be aggressive to those that wish to do harm to either. It particularly enjoys bringing flowers to its master/friends of its master. Hopefully you’re not allergic.
